Sandy Point, Virginia

Sandy Point, Virginia is a quaint town located in Westmoreland County. Situated on the Potomac River, Sandy Point offers a laid back pace; a much welcomed break from the hustle of city life. Just minutes from some of our nations most memorable landmarks and Virginia’s most prized winery’s, Sandy Point has something for everyone!

Sandy Point, Virginia, Here’s how I ended up there…

I had never been to the nations capital, Washington DC and I wanted to see Arlington Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial and all the historical landmarks but I didn’t want to spend a week there. I am an out doors person. I love nature, I love the water, the woods and a laid back experience that I knew I would not find if I stayed in Washington. My research took me to the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay which then led me to the Tween Cottage.

There are times when you travel as much as I do that you don’t always get your lodging destinations right the first time… this time I did! What a view! It was also located within a 30 minute drive to several very nice wineries and some very important historical landmarks. A few of the Vineyards we visited I listed below. The wine tastings at both were exceptional. The George Washington Birthplace and the Stratford Hall Plantation are a must see and very close to Sandy Point.

Fishing is my thing… and the Tween Cottage was right on the Potomac River. I caught in 1 day 5 different species of fish! Needless to say I spent a lot of time out on the dock. There 6 swans that were out there on and along the shore. I was told they have been residents for some time. They like to be fed and I enjoyed feeding them.

From the Cottage it was only a 2 hour drive into DC where we did a 2-Day Old Town Trolley Package and a Monuments by Moonlight Package. I love trolley tours because I love the story and history behind what I am looking at and I must say the trolley tour was a very easy way to see everything I wanted to and the history in the city is amazing!

I enjoyed my 7 night stay in Virginia/DC and the atmosphere of the Tween Cottage was so nice I added it to my “places to revisit” list.

But for now…. I am on to my next adventure!
